About the Directory of Music Faculties
The College Music Society
maintains a database of music faculty and institutions that serve higher
education in the United States and Canada. The database includes over 30,000
music faculty at over 1,800 music schools, departments, and conservatories. The
Society seeks to maintain complete listings of all institutions that offer
music instruction in the U.S. and Canada. The database contains the following
information concerning institutions and individual faculty members:
- Institutional name, address, phone, fax numbers, e-mail and Web addresses
- Graduate degrees, if offered
- Faculty listings for each institution including name, academic rank, highest degree earned, and teaching and research areas
- Names and titles of administrators
ACCESS TO THE CMS DATABASE OF FACULTY AND INSTITUTIONS
The Published Directory - In published form,
the Directory of Music Faculties in College and Universities, United States
and Canada is the essential reference work for the field of music in
higher education. The book includes the information described above and is
fully indexed by faculty and institutions, graduate degrees in music, faculty
teaching specialities, and faculty subspecialities.
Mailing Labels -
Mailing labels are available for all institutions and faculty listed in the
Directory. Many facets of the music and higher education community may be
reached. Mailing labels may be selected by any of 163 teaching specialities and
subspecialities, by zip code, and by state or province. Any combination of
individual lists (e.g., clarinet, musicology, choral, piano) may be merged and
purged to eliminate duplicates and combined into a single zip code sequence.
Also, lists are available for institutions and administrators. To obtain a
brochure or to order mailing labels, call the CMS Executive Office at (800)
729-0235 or send electronic mail to cms@music.org. A printable mailing label brochure in pdf format is available by clicking here.
On-Line Search for Institutions -
Search the database in the left column for institutional names, addresses, phone and fax
numbers, e-mail addresses, and links to Web pages. CMS members also have access to view detailed listings for each institution, including complete faculty listings with their teaching and research areas, and graduate degrees.
