CMS International Ambassadors

Call for Ambassadors

For the past fifteen years, The College Music Society has explored several ideas for increased international service. Principal among these have been (1) an international database of institutions and faculty; (2) an overture to institutions outside North America; and (3) Music.Org International, a new Web-based initiative for improved international communications.

CMS Ambassadors

As part of its recent Strategic Planning Vision, the Society is moving forward with a CMS Ambassador Program. The College Music Society would like to make available to CMS members information concerning tertiary education in music in countries around the world. CMS hopes to (1) facilitate understanding of the structure of tertiary education in countries outside North America, (2) identify institutions and faculty in those countries, and (3) assist in encouraging communication between those who teach in North America and those who teach in countries outside the region.

Requirements of CMS Ambassadors

Do you have expertise in a particular country or area of the world? If so, would you be willing to help by serving as an inaugural ambassador?  Three items are required:

  • CMS would like to have from you a short overview (just one or two paragraphs) of your experience with music and tertiary education in the country of your choosing. This brief abstract of your international experience in this country would help introduce you to the CMS membership and its larger audience in your role as a CMS Ambassador.
  • As the CMS Ambassador, we would like to list your name and email address on the CMS website along with your abstract so that you might be available to answer questions concerning music and music study in the country. We know those that seek advice or further information concerning the country will greatly appreciate your counsel.
  • The CMS International Initiatives Committee will be helping CMS longer term with developing relationships, initiatives, and events with our international colleagues. CMS would also like to continue to expand its listings of tertiary institutions internationally.  As a CMS Ambassador, CMS and the international committee would like to call on you as needed for advice and assistance.

Would you be willing to help?

If you would be willing to serve as an inaugural CMS ambassador, please provide the following information:

  • A brief cover letter providing the country or countries with which you have acquaintance or expertise;
  • Your resume or CV.

Please forward materials in MS Word format to Alexandra Zacharella (University of Arkansas Fort Smith), Co-Chair of the CMS Committee on International Initiatives, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
