The Pacific Northwest Chapter of The College Music Society is pleased to announce its Call for Program Participation for its Regional Conference on April 11–12, 2014 at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana.
The 2014 Performance and Composition Committee of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of The College Music Society welcomes CMS members, including faculty members, retirees, students, and independent musicians, to submit compositions to be included in a recital of works by CMS composers and performers.
Submission Deadline: 12:00 noon MST on Friday, November 15, 2013.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- The Performance and Composition Committee will conduct a blind review of all submitted works. Proposals for papers and/or lecture-recitals are to be submitted separately in response to the Call for Program Participation.
- Proposers must be members of The College Music Society. Please note the processing time for membership applications and/or renewals is 1-2 business days. Persons interested in submitting a proposal are encouraged to check their membership status well in advance of the submission deadline.
- The portion of the concert dedicated to electronic works will be limited to two-channel stereo. Tape-alone pieces and tape-plus-live-performer works are encouraged.
- A maximum submission of two acoustic works and/or electronic works per person is allowed. Members may also submit proposals for program participation in other parts of the conference, including papers and/or lecture-recitals.
- Proposers are responsible for providing performers and providing all instruments except for piano, which is available onsite.
- The composer’s name should not appear either in the program notes or on the score itself, as the Performance and Composition Committee will conduct a blind review of all proposals.
- Compositions of any length may be submitted; however, works that exceed 10 minutes may need to be excerpted for the CMS concert program.
- It is understood that proposers are willing to have their work performed on either day of the conference should their proposal be accepted.
- In the spirit of professional community, all composers selected are required to register for and attend the conference. Registration is not required of performers on concerts of works by CMS composers unless these persons plan to attend sessions in addition to the one in which they are performing.
- The Society can make available no travel monies for accepted composers, nor for any performers.
- Online submissions are required. Please do not mail proposals. Complete instructions will be found within the online proposal system.
- Complete proposals include the following:
- The score title, instrumentation, and duration, including timings of individual movements.
- Program notes not exceeding 250 words. The composer's name should not appear in the program notes.
- A brief (no more than 250 words) biography used as your introduction to attendees at the conference should your composition be accepted. This will not be viewed by persons reviewing your proposal and may include information prohibited in the remainder of the blind submission process.
- A PDF copy of the full score. The score may be notated at concert pitch or transposed but the composer is asked to make this clear for the performer.
- MP3 sound files of the work are encouraged but are not required. If MP3 files are submitted, they should not contain the composer's name either in the name of the file or in the file itself, such as in the properties of the file.
- Submissions that do not conform to the above guidelines will not be considered.
TIMELINE
Proposals must be submitted by 12:00 noon MDT on Friday, November 15, 2013. Proposers will be notified no later than Friday, December 13, 2013.
