Welcome to the inauguration of the Audio Performance Archive of College Music Symposium. It is a great honor and pleasure to serve as Editor of this new venture. I am excited that performers and composers will now be able to have the same opportunity for peer-reviewed public presentation long enjoyed by scholars and researchers through printed journals. It is wonderful that as technological capability continues to evolve and expand, it can serve so well the mission of CMS!
By providing a publically accessible, peer-reviewed repository of high-quality audio performances, The College Music Society shares with both the music field and the public (a) the fruits of research, (b) informed opinion concerning recent and historical music and music-related literature, (c) the work of music faculty in higher education, and (d) information concerning the musics of the world. Taken together, through these efforts, broadly defined, the music profession may present significant findings and accomplishments, and contribute to an informed citizenry.
All styles of music are eligible for inclusion in the Audio Performance Archive. We welcome content that highlights the broad interests of musicians, scholars, and composers worldwide.
We welcome all new and creative audio submissions from the CMS membership. The Editorial Board will evaluate submissions primarily on the quality of the content, accepting those performances that meet the highest professional standards. The Editorial Board will also evaluate the production value of the audio. Given today's easy access to devices that produce quality audio and the user-friendliness of editing software, we hope that quality audio production can be achived.
The guidelines for performance proposals are now being completed and will soon be available in early June. Please watch this space for details concerning the submission process.
