Welcome to the Northeast Chapter

Holly Roadfeldt-O'RiordanI am delighted to welcome you to the Northeast Chapter of The College Music Society. I am sure you will find that this chapter provides an abundance of professional opportunities and personal fulfillment.

There are over a thousand members from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the Maritime Provinces. While all of us entered this profession because of a passion for music and for teaching, it is essential for our well being to continue learning and to surround ourselves with inspirational individuals. We can strive to be what we want for our students: educators who cultivate intellectual curiosities and who preserve our identities as passionate musicians. The College Music Society can give us the chance to continue these missions and to recharge our batteries when needed.

At our annual conference, you will hear a variety of papers and lecture-recitals, a performance of works written by our chapter’s composers, a keynote speaker, and a pedagogical lecturer who provides new solutions to the challenges we face in our profession. I enthusiastically encourage you to submit a proposal for the upcoming conference, where you will find a friendly and supportive audience. If you are in the process of developing presentation ideas, I hope you will still attend to hear the challenging and/or motivating philosophies of your colleagues in the Northeast region.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to hear more about our organization or to share your thoughts. In the meantime, our next conference will be held at Keene State College, March 15– 16, 2013. Our keynote speaker is the world-renowned performer and pedagogue, Dr. Frederick Hemke. I hope to see you there!

Warmest wishes,
