Welcome to the Southern Chapter

Welcome to the home page of the Southern Chapter of The College Music Society! The Southern Chapter of CMS is rich and vibrant, with a deep and honored history (much of which in chronicled via a link on the left-hand column of this page). Our annual conferences include presentations and performances from across the spectrum of music in the academy. Senior faculty, junior faculty, retired faculty, and students all are typically well represented at our conferences.

Our calls for participation are issued at the beginning of each academic year. We encourage you to submit proposals for paper presentations, lecture-recitals, composers’ concerts, performers’ concerts, and poster sessions. We also encourage members who are not presenting to attend the conference not only to learn from colleagues, but also to make and strengthen friendships.

As an advocate for honoring and fostering students’ work, the Southern Chapter also sponsors annual student paper and student composition competitions. We encourage student members of the Southern Chapter to submit their work in these competitions.

We are pleased to announce that our 2012 Chapter Conference will be held February 23–25 at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions about the Southern Chapter of CMS, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are interested in running for an office on the Board, please let me know. I have found my time as a member of the Board to be very rewarding, and I encourage anyone that may be interested in serving to talk with us.
