Through its forums and dialogues, The College Music Society establishs and enhances discussions concerning matters of importance to the music and higher education community. Representatives of the major areas of music and those working in the Society's service areas assist in identification and analysis of professional concerns, and in the development of projects, programs, publications, and professional development initiatives designed to address issues within them. Forums are held during the regional, national, and international conferences of the Society.
Advisory Councils contributing to the forums and dialogues of the Society include those dedicated to At Large, Composition, Cultural Inclusion, Ethnomusicology, Music Education, Music in General Studies, Music Theory, Musicology, Performance, and Student initiatives.
