2013 Summit: Register Now!

smuThe 2013 CMS Summit will focus on Developing the Artist Citizen.  Scheduled for Martin Luther King weekend, the 2013 Summit will take place at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, January 19-20, 2013.

The CMS 2013 Summit, "Developing the Artist Citizen," promises to offer an invigorating and inspiring two days of stimulating conversations. In our time together, we'll be exploring four interrelated threads:

  1. What does it mean to be an artist-citizen?
  2. How can music be used to engage those who might feel marginalized within a particular community, and how might marginalized groups use music to give themselves a voice?
  3. What can we do as artists to improve the world?
  4. How can we position ourselves to be the most useful and how can we give our students the skills they need to be effective artist-citizens?

Under each thread, we'll see various venues where concepts of artist-citizenry can be enacted—in the academy, in the communities where we live, and in the world.

We have confirmed several dynamic speakers for the Summit:
