Welcome to the Great Lakes Chapter

ross nicholasWelcome to the Great Lakes Chapter of CMS. Founded in 1983, we are an international chapter comprising Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Ontario, Quebec, and Wisconsin.

The Great Lakes chapter has a broad membership representing a wide range of disciplines, but we find common ground in our inclusivity and spirit of inquiry. Our annual spring conference showcases our diversity—and collegiality—through the presentation of papers, panels, lecture-recitals, composers’ concerts, poster sessions, workshops, and demonstrations. A keynote lecture, business meeting, and conference lunch round out the event with plenty of opportunities for networking throughout. Members from all regions are invited to submit proposals and are welcome to attend regardless of whether or not they are presenting.

Our chapter is a strong advocate for honoring and fostering student work. We have a long tradition of presenting an annual monetary award for an outstanding student conference presentation. Recently we have been able to expand our support to offer two awards, for Best Student Presentation and Best Student Composition. Additionally, we offer assistance with registration fees in cases of hardship so that everyone who wants to participate, either as a presenter or attendee, can be included.

There are many other opportunities to be involved in the Great Lakes Chapter beyond the annual conference. Please contact me for more information or to learn more about the chapter.

I look forward to hearing from you!
