Recognizing the need for continual renewal of college, conservatory, and university music faculty, The College Music Society offers opportunities for the continuing education of its members. In addition to expanding knowledge in music, the Society seeks to offer significant opportunities for the development and enhancement of music instruction and to celebrate the importance of teaching.
Through its Committee on Professional Development, The College Music Society holds a variety of events on topics of interest to music faculty and students in higher education, as well as independent musicians and scholars. These may take the form of half- or full-day pre-conference events in conjunction with the annual CMS National Conference or may be multi-day summer institutes, workshops, or symposia. CMS also endorses several pre-established programs each year which contribute to the development of individuals or the profession as a whole.
