2016 National Conference Overview

index.php-5Join The College Music Society (CMS), Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI), National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI), and Pi Kappa Lambda (PKL) in Santa Fe for our 2016 National Conferences. A single registration allows admission to all conference sessions, regardless of affiliation.

Santa Fe is a beautiful city with a rich history and cultural heritage. Known as an artistic hotbed, the city is home to more than a dozen state and private museums, as well as more than 200 world-class art galleries. It’s also a foodie town, and there are many great restaurants within walking distance of our conference hotels to keep you happy and well-fed.

This year’s program will take place in 3 different venues, all within easy walking distance of each other: The Eldorado Hotel & Spa, The Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza, and the St. Francis Auditorium. The schedule features an exciting mix of live concerts, scholarly presentations, workshops, community engagement events, networking opportunities, and special guest lectures.

Invited speakers this year include Jay LeBoeuf (CMS-ATMI Technology Lecturer), David H. Stull (Robert Trotter Lecturer), Robert Weirich (CMS Master Pedagogue), and Mary Luehrsen (PKL Keynote Lecture). We are also delighted to showcase outstanding groups of local musicians who will share New Mexican folk music and premiere new works by CMS composers. And to consider the connection between the music industry and higher education, a special track devoted to this topic will run throughout the course of the conference.

Student attendees will appreciate that several events have been organized with them in mind, including a student welcome reception, a lightning panel with content generated from current students, and a session of research presentations by students and recent graduates.

Lastly, don’t forget to sign up to take part in the valuable mock interviews and private career mentoring sessions that are a hallmark of our conferences.
