Welcome to the Northwest (formerly the Pacific Northwest) Chapter of The College Music Society. Established in 1988, our chapter includes nearly 300 CMS members in Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Northwest Territories, Oregon, Washington, and Yukon. In line with The College Music Society’s mission, our chapter proudly promotes music teaching and learning, musical creativity and expression, research and dialogue, and diversity and interdisciplinary interaction.
Our annual Regional Conference includes paper presentations, panels, lecture-recitals, CMS composers' concerts, CMS performer recitals, student papers and compositions, workshops, poster sessions, and demonstrations that relate to all aspects of music creation, performance, scholarship, teaching, learning, career considerations, and other areas of interest to the music profession. Additionally, our conference features a keynote address and an annual business meeting and luncheon. Participation in the conference welcomes the opportunity to network with our region’s colleagues active in a wide range of musical disciplines; a call for conference proposals is released each fall. We strongly urge chapter members to attend the yearly conference even if they do not submit a proposal. Students are particularly encouraged to participate at the conference and within our chapter as a whole.
Our chapter offers a wide range of opportunities for career enhancement and networking with fellow musicians in the region who share a common interest and dedication to the improvement of music and its place in higher education. As a CMS member, you are welcome to be involved in our chapter through regional conferences, boards, and service positions. We welcome faculty, graduate students, composers, independent scholars, and performers to join us. Welcome!
