Welcome to the South Central Chapter

zacharella alexandraWelcome to the South Central Chapter of the College Music Society. Established in 1985, our nearly 500 CMS members come from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Our members find a home in CMS because of its wide diversity of musical interests and a strong sense of community.

Our chapter has a broad membership representing a wide range of disciplines. Our annual March conference showcases our diversity—and collegiality—through specific calls for scores composers’ concerts, papers, panels, lecture-recitals, poster sessions, workshops, and demonstrations. We value student participation and encourage undergraduate and graduate students to submit proposals to our conference call. CMS South Central presents monetary awards for outstanding student presentations during the March conference.

This year our conference will be held at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. We encourage members from all chapters to submit proposals, particularly those that address the CMS Common Topic and calls for women in music, jazz studies, business and industry, Latin music, cultures of marginalized populations, particularly Indigenous and Black peoples, and members of the LGBTQIA community. Everyone, regardless of proposal acceptance, is welcome to attend the conference.

In our conference call to scores, we are encouraging calls for compositions for wind ensemble, wind ensemble and fixed media, mixed chorus, men’s chorus, women’s chorus, jazz band, trombone choir, low brass ensemble, clarinet choir, flute choir, percussion ensemble and solo/accompanied works for clarinet, flute, trombone, percussion, and voice.

There are many other opportunities to be involved in the South Central Chapter beyond the annual conference. Please contact me for more information or to learn more about our chapter.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!
