American conservatories were established upon 19th-century European models, with the goal of preparing students of the highest caliber for careers in performance. Centuries later, conservatories adhere to this model without the necessary adjustments needed to prepare students for sustainable 21st-century careers. As a preview of their pre-conference workshop scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, 2016, these workshop faculty members provide a "sneak" preview of what is to take place in Santa Fe, including discussion of some of the issues conservatory students and alumni are facing and ideas on how to change them.
