Music Curricula at Liberal Arts Colleges

Curricular development poses unique challenges in music departments at liberal arts colleges because they employ relatively few full-time faculty members, who must nevertheless find ways to address an increasingly wide range of subject matter in response to rapid changes in musical culture and student interests. This webinar outlines some of the curricular changes liberal arts music faculty are discussing and the challenges they face in implementing change. Solutions developed by specific departments illustrate the webinar, along with brief descriptions of specific courses that capitalize on the unique locations, resources, programs, or missions of various colleges. The information derives from interviews with music department faculty from liberal arts colleges.
