Reforming the Reformer: Identifying Limiting Patterns in the Musical-Academic Change Movement

Reforming the Reformer: Identifying Limiting Patterns in the Musical-Academic Change Movement

Presenter Ed Sarath goes beyond typical appeals for change in musical academe and offers a critique of the reform movement itself. Superficial conceptions of change, views of creativity as an add-on as opposed to foundational pillar for a new paradigm, and use of problematic language that sustains conventional thinking are among the obstacles perpetuated by reformers themselves that will be examined.
