As part of its Career Development initiative, The College Music Society will provide opportunities for mock interviews during its National Conference. All conference registrants, including current students and faculty, as well as independent musicians and those from the music business and industry, are invited to participate.
These sessions last 40-minutes and typically consist of at least two interviewers, much like a search committee. Interviewers and interviewees keep all discussions strictly in confidence, adhering to discussion permissible and typical of standard interviews. The interviewers provide whenever possible a variety of expertise and viewpoints for the interviewee.
Request a Mock Interview
Whether you are an experienced faculty member or soon to be a graduate about to apply for your first job, having a mock interview with a panel of professional colleagues unfamiliar with your work can be a very helpful step in securing your next career opportunity. This service is available to all CMS members who register for the conference, and often provides not only a way to gain valuable, live feedback but also a way of networking and sharing ideas with colleagues.
Complete the form below to request a live mock interview session. You will be required to upload, in PDF format, a sample CV and application letter that will be shared with your interview committee before your designated meeting time. You will also be asked to provide a summary of the goals you have for the interview, as this will enable the interviewers to tailor the session to best suit your needs.
Requests for mock interviews must be received no later than Thursday, August 29, 2019.
Serve as an Interviewer
Serving as an interviewer while meeting with CMS members in a mock interview session can be a tremendously rewarding experience. At CMS National Conferences, the Society always appreciates the participation of those willing to share their expertise and insights whether from the academy or industry. This is an excellent way to gain experience being an interviewer while networking with colleagues and sharing ideas.
Interviewers receive electronic copies of their interviewee's Vita and sample cover letter in advance of the meeting. These documents, as well as a summary of goals outlined by the interviewee, will help frame the structure and pace of the interview.
Applications from those wishing to serve as interviewers must be received no later than Thursday, August 29, 2019.
