Financial Assistance for Students

CMS and The CMS Fund are able to offer a limited number of awards to assist student members in attending the 2021 CMS National Conference in Rochester, New York, October 7–9. 

 

Grant Details

The amount of each award has not yet been finalized; however, each awardee can expect to receive at least $150. These awards are intended to help offset travel costs and will be distributed at a special student meeting during the conference. It is required for award recipients to attend the entire conference as well as all special student sessions. 

 

Eligibility

Current student membership in The College Music Society is required to apply for a travel award. Please check the status of your membership by logging into the CMS website and noting the text underneath your name in the upper, right-hand portion of the home page.

Preference will be given to those not already receiving other travel assistance through CMS. 

Students must demonstrate need. Those who live in the Greater Rochester area (within a 250-miles radius of the conference venue) are not eligible for this award. 

Presenting on the conference program is not a requirement. All complete award applications will be considered. Priority will be given to student presenters, new student members of CMS, and first-time National Conference attendees.

Applications must be received by noon Mountain Time on Thursday, June 17, 2021
Awards will be announced by Thursday, June 24, 2021.

For consideration after the early-bird registration deadline:

Applications must be received by noon Mountain Time on Thursday, August 12, 2021
Awards will be announced by Thursday, August 19, 2021.

Award: The College Music Society will provide up to $300 in travel reimbursement to each student representative of the Student Advisory Council for the following expenses:

  1. air travel; 
  2. ground transportation to and from your home airport;
  3. ground transportation from the airport to your hotel, and return; 
  4. meals from Wednesday noon through Sunday noon; and
  5. lodging from Wednesday through Saturday night.

* Please note that conference registration is not included in this offer.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must hold current student membership in CMS and serve as their chapter’s student representative (and consequently a member of the Student Advisory Council) at the time of the conference (October 7–9, 2021). Student representatives are either elected by their chapter’s membership or appointed by the chapter’s president as set forth in their chapter’s by-laws.

 

Requirements

Awardees must attend the entire conference, all special student sessions, and the annual meeting of the Student Advisory Council.

 

Application Process 

No application form required. Eligible awardees must communicate with the co-chairs of the Student Advisory Committee regarding their intention to attend the conference no later than Thursday, June 17, 2021.

SAC members must file an expense reimbursement form and original receipts with the CMS Executive Office following the conference, but no later than October 22, 2021. Full details regarding reimbursement will be distributed at the annual meeting of the SAC.

As a token of appreciation for service, current presidents of CMS student chapters will receive a complimentary conference registration. Complimentary registration does not include ticketed events or pre-conference workshops.

Applicants must hold current student membership in CMS and serve as the president of their student chapter at the time of the conference (October 7–9, 2021).

Awardees must attend the entire conference and all special student sessions.

 

Application Process:

No application form is required. Student chapter presidents must conform their plans to attend with Student Advisory Council co-chairs Gene Trantham and Jennifer Snodgrass no later than Thursday, June 17, 2021. Each chapter president will be given a special discount code to use when registering online. Discount codes are non-transferrable and only one will be allotted for each student chapter.

 

Application Deadline:

Student chapter presidents are required to use their discount code to register for the conference by Thursday, July 1, 2021.
