Sixty-Third National Conference (2020)
On behalf of the 2020 CMS National Conference program committee, it is my pleasure to invite you to participate in our Sixty-third National Conference, held in conjunction with the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI), National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI), and Pi Kappa Lambda (PKL). For the first time, we will hold the conference online from October 9–11 & 16–18, 2020.
Presentations, workshops, and performances revolve around the conference theme of “Fostering Equity and Opportunity in Music,” while many address gender, cultural or ethnic diversity and inclusion in music making and learning. Daily plenary sessions include such musical visionaries as Tania León, Joseph Conyers, and Joseph Abbati, and explore topics such as creating opportunities for equity and inclusivity in higher education.
Without the added expense associated with travel, we are thrilled that the online platform will permit many more music colleagues to participate in the conference than ever before. Additionally, our online platform will provide opportunities to engage with colleagues during presentations, network and discuss areas of common interest outside of presentation rooms and interact with exhibitors. The conference promises to be a thought-provoking, professional development opportunity for all musicians in higher education. We hope that you will register and join us for most or just some of the conference.
Plenary sessions, papers, panels, demonstrations, lecture-recitals, etc. are scheduled from 12 noon–3:30 p.m. EDT daily, while showcase concerts will occur from 8:00–9:00 p.m. and virtual receptions and networking time is slated from 3:45–4:30 p.m. most days. The full program will be posted in August. Be sure to register by 12:00 noon mountain time on July 23 to take advantage of the early-bird discount. We look forward to seeing you at the CMS National Conference in October!
Sincerely,
Pamela D. Pike
Chair, 2020 National Program Committee
