Pop Performance in the Curriculum

Pop Performance in the Curriculum

Presenter: Dr. Justin Patch (Vassar College - Poughkeepsie, New York)

This CMS Webinar expands on the notion that pop performance should be an integral part of the curriculum for music departments. Pop ensembles cultivate life-long amateur music making, offer an opportunity for an inverted classroom experience, which is less common in conservatory-style settings, and help music departments maintain professional relevance. In addition, pop ensembles give the opportunity for young musicians to take lead roles in ensemble peer-to-peer coaching and artistic direction, and hands-on learning of critical communication and leadership skills. These practices keep music departments current and also meet broader educational goals.
