In this presentation, we will share the findings from a 3-year Canadian trial of the Sound Performers online curriculum for college music students, developed by Drs. Suzie Wijsman and Bronwen Ackermann in Australia. The trial included three Canadian universities, 2 of whom implemented the curriculum as an optional, non-credit activity, and one which integrated the curriculum into a blended learning (online and face-to-face), multidisciplinary, credit course. Participants answered questionnaires before, during, and after the course, and these questionnaires were also completed by music students who did not take the course. In addition, we employed qualitative focus groups and interviews to collect students' impressions of the course and examined educational outcomes to determine its impact. The university which integrated the curriculum into a credit course has adopted the course as a permanent offering.

Dr. Christine Guptill is Assistant Professor in Occupational Therapy at the University of Ottawa. She is also Vice Chair of Research for the Performing Arts Medicine Association. She holds a BMus (oboe performance), BSc (Biology), and PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from Western University (Canada), and an MS in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University. Her program of research focuses on musicians’ health from a work disability prevention perspective. Christine designed and taught the first university credit course to address musicians' health in Canada, which is the focus of a research study examining blended (internet and face to face) learning to improve occupational resilience among post-secondary music students, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Current work includes a scoping review of the role of occupational therapy for musicians’ health, interviews with OTs who care for musicians, and a podcast sharing the potential of OT services for musicians.  https://health.uottawa.ca/people/guptill-christine  E-mail:  [email protected]
