Internships

The College Music Society is excited to announce internship opportunities for students interested in acquiring arts administration experience and learning about the challenges and rewards of working in a non-profit environment.

The following internships are available for the 2023-2024 academic year:

College Music Symposium Production Assistant — Internship runs from June 1, 2023–May 31, 2024. Start and end dates are flexible within a few weeks. The Production Assistant will work with CMS staff and Symposium editors to produce two volumes of the scholarly journal during the year of internship. Main duties will include transferring articles from print to online format, creating a print version of each volume in PDF format, and creating and submitting DOIs (digital object identifiers) with CrossRef.org.

Airtable Projects Assistant — Internship is project-based, so working hours are flexible within the time frame of established projects. Work may take place in summer only, academic year only, or both. Airtable is a modern spreadsheet tool with database functionalities and is used as a platform for building collaborative applications. This internship will require learning and mastering the software, creating new projects in Airtable, and importing data from older applications into existing Airtable bases.

Events Assistant(s) — Internship(s) begin May 1, 2023, requiring work both in the summer and the academic year. Internship(s) conclude following administrative wrap-up of events. Travel to the CMS National Conference in Miami, FL from October 25-29 may be required. (Travel expenses paid by CMS.) Travel to CMS/NAMM GenNext at the NAMM Show in January 2024 may be required. (Travel expenses paid by CMS.) Multiple administrative tasks prior to events may include working in software platforms Webex and Kubify (training provided, as needed). Additional internship projects may be developed upon agreement between the intern and CMS staff.

Social Media Assistant — Internship runs from mid-May, 2023 through mid-May, 2024. Start and end dates are flexible within a few weeks. The Social Media Intern will work with the CMS Staff to manage CMS social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
