Council on Music and Sound Technology

Charge

The Council on Music and Sound Technology works with the Board of Directors and the Society to cultivate an inclusive, forward-looking, and professionally relevant culture for music technology and sound design across teaching, creative practice, research, and industry engagement. The Council acts to achieve this goal by identifying and advancing initiatives that reflect current and emerging trends in the field, including digital and networked music-making, immersive and spatial audio, interactive and game audio, film and media sound, audio for virtual and augmented environments, creative applications of artificial intelligence, and accessible and ethical technology practices. The Council supports the Society by developing opportunities for professional development and mentorship; fostering dialogue between academic programs and professional communities; encouraging equitable participation by historically under-represented and under-recognized voices; and promoting curricular and pedagogical innovation that aligns with evolving tools, workflows, and professional standards. The Council also helps the Society explore how technological practice and sound design can strengthen advocacy, collaboration, and community impact within the broader musical ecosystem.
