Welcome to the Mid-Atlantic chapter of College Music Society!
CMS is a truly unique organization, committed to the music academy in all of its breadth and promoting innovation, advocacy, and multiple types of meaningful engagement. Regional chapters enhance the reach of CMS with engagement pathways that are more local and accessible, including conferences and other activities that create spaces for networking and conversation around shared issues.
The Mid-Atlantic chapter provides that welcoming place of belonging and shared endeavor. We are committed to excellent conferences that engage everyone from students to retired members. Our conferences promote community by centering plenary events and shared down time, support composers with up to three composition concerts, and promote student participation, supported by the Ruskin Cooper student paper award and the student composition award. The 2027 conference at Virginia Tech will be a can’t-miss event! We hope to see you there, whether or not you are presenting.
The Mid-Atlantic board is developing initiatives that provide resources to its members throughout the year and that will drive broader engagement across the region. It is our goal to facilitate a rich community of researchers, pedagogues, performers, composers, administrators, students, and allies. Contact me to be added to our mailing list so you can become part of this community. I look forward to seeing you at CMS Mid-Atlantic events.
