The field of music theory education has seen significant advancements in recent years, with a focus on creating more holistic and inclusive curricula that reflect the diverse world of music and its cultural significance.

In this presentation, Dr. Adem Merter Birson (NYU Steinhardt) will share his experience of integrating global music perspectives into the undergraduate theory curriculum. He will demonstrate how the courses at NYU use Auralia & Musition as a teaching tool to diversify their program and improve student feedback and accessibility. Adem will also provide a tour of the new global music content in Auralia & Musition.

Tim Wilson (Auralia & Musition, jazz saxophonist) will present strategies for delivering automatically assessed jazz focused theory and ear training materials through Auralia & Musition. This includes solo transcription, chord/scale theory, lead sheet analysis, realizing jazz chord symbols, voice leading, guide tones and more. He will also discuss methods for helping students apply this knowledge in context to support the creative development of their improvisation, composition and arranging skills.
