Welcome to the Central Chapter

Kyu-Youn Butler.

Dear CMS Central Chapter Members,

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the Central Chapter of the College Music Society. I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated officers, board members, and volunteers as we continue to strengthen our vibrant community of musicians, educators, scholars, composers, and performers.

The College Music Society has long been a place where diverse voices and perspectives come together to advance music in higher education and beyond. Our Central Chapter reflects that mission through meaningful collaboration, innovative scholarship, inspiring performances, and a shared commitment to excellence in teaching and service.

As we move forward, my goal is to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where members at all career stages can connect, share ideas, and grow professionally. Whether you are a student, early-career faculty member, seasoned educator, performer, composer, researcher, or administrator, your contributions enrich our chapter and help shape its future.

I am especially excited about our upcoming conference. The Conference provide valuable opportunities to present research, perform, engage in thoughtful discussions, build professional networks, and celebrate the remarkable work being done across our region. I encourage our members to become actively involved by presenting, volunteering, serving on committees, and supporting the many initiatives that make our chapter successful.

The strength of our chapter lies in its members. Together, we can continue to create meaningful opportunities for professional development, mentorship, collaboration, and artistic growth while advancing the mission of the College Music Society. As we begin a new chapter of leadership, I would like to encourage members to consider becoming involved in chapter service. Our organization depends on the generosity, expertise, and commitment of volunteers who are willing to serve as officers, committee members, and leaders of special projects. Serving in a leadership role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the profession, develop valuable administrative experience, expand professional networks, and help shape the future of our chapter. If you are interested in serving in any capacity, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to music and music education. I look forward to meeting many of you at our events and working together to make this an exciting and productive year for the Central Chapter.

With best wishes,

Kyu Butler ()
