Welcome to the South Central Chapter

Kyle Gullings.

Welcome to the South Central Chapter of the College Music Society, established in 1985. Spanning Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, our over 700 members include educators, performers, composers, researchers, administrators, students, independent musicians, and more. What binds us all together is a passion for creating music and musical knowledge and sharing our work with others in a supportive community.

One thing that sets CMS apart from most other professional organizations is the opportunity to connect with professionals bringing diverse perspectives from the widest variety of musical subdisciplines. This is most evident in our annual conferences each March, featuring professionally adjudicated calls for lecture recitals, performances, papers, panels, workshops, demonstrations, posters, and original scores. These gatherings regularly bring together dozens of participants and observers from within and outside of our region. We particularly encourage undergraduate and graduate student participation, supported through monetary awards for the most outstanding student presentations at every annual conference.

I hope you will take a moment to explore our website and learn about the wealth of resources, events, professional development opportunities, and more available through CMS. Please feel free to contact me anytime for more information about our chapter, to discuss serving as a site host for our annual conference, or to find out more about opportunities to serve the South Central Chapter in a leadership role. As a professional membership organization, CMS relies on the input, involvement, and leadership of its members to sustain and guide its activities.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at a chapter conference!
