The College Music Society (CMS) is pleased to announce its 68th National Conference in Spokane, WA, October 30–November 1, 2025, in conjunction with the 2025 National Conference of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI).
The 2025 CMS National Conference Theme is “Creative Ecosystems: Music, Research, Practice, and Impact” and aims to explore the interplay between music, research, practice, and their collective impact in the 21st century through the lens of the CMS 2024-2025 Common Topic.
CMS is excited to invite members of the Society to apply to participate in Roundtable Think-Tank discussions in preparation for the 2026 CMS Summit, hosted at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. The Roundtable Think-Tanks will feature topical conversations facilitated by CMS member leaders in which participants will ask questions and brainstorm action-oriented solutions to “Designing Career-Centered Music Curricula,” focused around the following pillars of:
- Belonging: led by Dr. Yeeseon Kwon (Roosevelt University; CMS Vice President) and Shawn Copeland (Founder and CEO, mBODYed; Chair of the CMS Committee on Musicians’ Health, Access, and Well-Being)
- Creativity: led by Dr. Suzanne Hall (Boyer College of Music and Dance, Temple University; Chair of the CMS Council on Music Education)
- Technology: led by Rey Sanchez (Frost School of Music; CMS Cohort on Artificial Intelligence in Music)
- Advocacy: facilitator TBD
This session will be structured as a plenary event and will consist of the following format:
- Four (4) concurrent 55-minute discussion groups (one group per pillar), followed by
- a 25-minute group talkback session, in which all participants will come together to share insights generated from their individual discussion groups.
CONSIDERATIONS
- All applicants selected to participate in the Roundtable Think-Tanks will need to register for, and attend the 2025 CMS National Conference.
- All participants in the Roundtable Think-Tanks will be listed in the 2025 CMS National Conference program.
- CMS does not fund travel expenses for accepted presenters.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must be current members of The College Music Society at the time of submission. If you are interested in participating in this session, please check your membership status in advance of the application deadline. Please note that the processing time for membership applications and/or renewals is 1–2 business days.
PROPOSAL SUBMISSION & PARTICIPATION POLICY
- For all other Conference Calls, the maximum number of presentations in which a member may be involved on the conference program is two; however, this policy does not apply to Roundtable Think-Tanks. Applicants are encouraged to apply for and participate in Roundtable Think-Tanks regardless of the number of other conference presentations in which they are engaged.
PREPARATION OF MATERIALS
- Electronic submissions are required.
- The CMS conference submission process is powered by Submittable. To submit a proposal, please (1) log in to the CMS members-only website using your username and password and then (2) click the “Submit” button at the bottom of this call. You will be directed to Submittable to complete your proposal. If you don’t already have a Submittable account, you will be prompted to create one (click here for help using Submittable and to view a list of Frequently Asked Questions).
A complete proposal includes:
- Submission of the applicant’s resume and/or CV. (This does not need to be anonymized.)
- A brief (500 words or less) summary highlighting the applicant’s interest in the proposed pillar.
TIMELINE
Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 pm Mountain Time on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Proposers will be notified of their status by Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
